National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute also provides information about sleep disorders. Their's is a comprehensive web-based information hub . . . and more . . .
At NHLBI's Health Information Center,
health information specialists are available to assist callers
by providing information on
diseases of the heart, lung, and blood, and sleep disorders:
Monday through Friday (except holidays)
from 8:30 am to 5 pm EST
(301) 592-8573
(no toll free number!!!)

Here are just a few items of the MANY featured at NHLIB:

  • Something for kids to encourage a good night's rest: Garfield's Star Sleeper Campaign
  • An online catalog of brochures, booklets and publications. While a few of their publications can be downloaded by PDF or viewed and printed at an HTML website, most are otherwise not free, but may be ordered for a modest charge.
  • When Delicious Meets Nutritious: Here is an example of free nutrition information.
  • Here is an example of HTML information sheet on Cystic Fibrosis

This site offers important information and some unique features, but the costs to the receive the items by mail are a limitation to reaching inviduals of limited means. Likewise for the lack of a toll free number to reach the health information hotline. I noticed at least one Spanish title among the offerings, but no other languages . . .
